Meaning of Islam

As Salamualikum Wa Rahmatullah Wa Barakatuh,

Everyday we hear people saying I am a Muslim but how many know what the word Islam means?

Al-Islam - It is to submit to Allah (subhana wa ta'ala) with Tawheed (Monotheism) and to yeild to Him with obedience and purity from Shirk and Bid'ah (innovation) and their people.

Allah the Most High, said:

Truly, the religion with Allah is Islaam... (Surah Imran, 3:19)

Allah, the Most High, said:

...And i have chosen for you Islaam as your religion...(Surah Al-Maaidah, 5:3)

Allah, the Most High said:

And turn in repentance and with obedience with true Faith to your Lord and submit to Him before the torment comes upon you, then you will not be helped. (Surah Az-Zumar, 39:54)

Allah, the Most High said:

Then die not except in a state of Islaam. (Surah Al-Baqarah, 2:132)

Allah, the Most High, said:

And die not except in a state of islam. (Surah Imran, 3:102)

Allah, the Most High, said:

Do they seek other than the religion of Allah (the true Islamic Monotheism-worshipping none but Allah Alone), while to Him submit all creatures, in the Heavens and the Earth, willingly or unwillingly. And to Him shall they all be returned. (Surah Imran, 3:83)

Allah, the Most High, said:

And whoever seeks a religion other than islaam, it will be never accepted of him, and in the Hereafter he will be of the losers.(Surah Imran, 3:85)
